SIMPLY RELAXING
No Spoilers!
Snow White with the Red Hair or more commonly called Akagami no Shirayki-hime is a relaxing and subtle anime that keeps you intrigued by constantly making you feel some sort of gratitude or happiness for the characters in the anime. It’s weird I know, but keep with me.
Anime Description
Although her name means “snow white,” Shirayuki is a cheerful, red-haired girl living in the country of Tanbarun who works diligently as an apothecary at her herbal shop. Her life changes drastically when she is noticed by the silly prince of Tanbarun, Prince Raji, who then tries to force her to become his concubine. Unwilling to give up her freedom, Shirayuki cuts her long red hair and escapes into the forest, where she is rescued from Raji by Zen Wistalia, the second prince of a neighboring country, and his two aides. Hoping to repay her debt to the trio someday, Shirayuki sets her sights on pursuing a career as the court herbalist in Zen’s country, Clarines. Click here to read more
It’s definitely worth it… if it’s your slice of cake
My standards are very high when it comes to romances, and Snow White with the Red Hair definitely reaches those standards.
“Cliche’s used well”
I believe the anime community has come to accept cliche’s. But Snow White with the Red Hair uses them efficiently without overusing them.
“Forbidden Romance”
Shirayuki is a peasant but she falls in love with Zen Wistalia, prince of Clarines. This story shows some deep problems in our society as well. Such as how title can dictate your future, and money is the root of all evil. This anime portrays some ideas such as these quite clearly and very effectively.
“Weird happy feeling towards the characters”
Snow White with the Red Hair is an anime that for some reason make me very happy. There was no intense combat, no intense romance and no intense story. Though it had appropriate and fitting combat, appreciated and not overused romance and a very laid back cruise throughout the story.
Summary
Snow White with the Red Hair is a beautiful romance between a peasant Shirayki and a prince named Zen. The anime uses cliche’s well and doesn’t overuse them. The forbidden romance helps us understand deeper problems within society while the anime constantly gives you an uplifting happy feel. The ending isn’t the most satisfying, but that doesn’t stop Snow White with the Red Hair to receive a clear 8.4/10.
